The Day We Killed Bin Lauden

about

I was inspired by my friend dave to actually sit down at a keyboard
and put all my thoughts about the Guatemaula project into plain
words....perhaps this makes sense to you?
_____________
Here is the matter at hand. There is an island at the southern end of
Lago Petan in the highlands of Guatemala. At present moment the entire
island is also known as the town of Flores, Guatemala. This island and
this town have a very interesting and important history.
When the Spanish Conquistadors first arrived in the new world they
established their power base in Hispaniola, today known as Cuba. From
this base, they were able to send explorations out in all directions.
One nearby landing point was in the Yucatan peninsula, around the
North Eastern tip close to the modern day resort town of Cancun.

The initial Spanish explorations of the Yucatan did not go well. The
land is heavily covered in dense forest, save for the cenotes there is
virtually no fresh water and then there were the Natives....
Highly advanced in their civilization, the Mayan world and fallen into
decline before the arrival of the Spanish. Once a unified empire the
Mayan world had fractured into a multitude of warring city states.
Unlike the fate of the Aztecs to the North and the Inca to the South,
it would not be possible for the Spanish to make a single, easy
Conquest of the Mayan world.

The name Itza means "Sacred-Substance Water" and is attached to a
powerful family, the local equivalent of the Medicis in Renaissance
Italy. The first Mayans to meet the Spanish were almost certainly
under the political domination of the Itzas, who at the time were
still running a big show in a town called Chich'en Itza. Located
45mins from the popular resort town of Cancun, Chich'en Itza is today
a World Heritage Site.
(this means the original inhabitants are forever barred from
rebuilding and the place is preserved as a monument to being
conquered.)
These first contacts, in 1511, after a small boat ran ashore yielding
interesting results. After a whole bunch of misfortunes, two white men
were left behind alive. One man Gerónimo de Aguilar, remained loyal to
the crown and eventually returned to Spanish lands and became Herman
Cortez's translator, assisting with the Conquest of the Aztecs.
The other man Gonzalo Guerrero , went native, took a local bride, and
worked closely to assist the Itza's in there initial resistance to the
Spanish.
These castaways spread knowledge of European arrival throughout the
Mayan speaking world. They also brought smallpox, which was a big hit
and spread like wild fire.

By the 1520's the Spanish were making serious attempts at a military
conquest of the Itza lands. The Itzas, in what must have been a ballsy
move by a people ravaged by epidemic, moved their whole show south to
the largest source of fresh water in the densely forested highlands of
what is now Guatemala.
This proved to be a divinely inspired move. Their new capital,
Nojpeten, survived as a politically coherent state until 1697, longer
than any other "complex civilization" in the Western Hemisphere.
Upon the capture of Nojpeten, (the majority of the inhabitants
slipping away in canoes) the Spanish, exhausted and barely alive after
a hard fought victory, spent the next 48 hours demolishing everything.
Considered worthless as a archeological site, today the island is
known as the beautiful town of Flores, Guatemala.

Man, Dave, this place, if the photos are not lying, is seriously
pretty. Whoever rebuilt the wreckage of the 1697 conquest made it look
beautiful. Look up some photos of Flores on Google Images and you'll
see.... although batshit remote, this is one of the most inspiring
spots in the world.
I'm dying to visit this place.... the Guatemalan Highlands are pretty
far out.... the political situation in recent years has some kind of
US owned fruit company dominating the local economy which has led, in
the last 100+ years, to a bunch of meddling and quasi-warfare.
Eventually the fruit company had to form a bunch of private
paramilitary death squads to deal with the problem of angry locals
tired of getting screwed. This led to the CIA involvement in the local
mess. By mess we mean Genocide, and a large one at that, the largest
Genocide in the western hemisphere within anyone now living's life
time.
For unstated reasons, the effect of these genocides is that there are
now less than 60 people alive on this planet who speak Itza as their
native tongue.
The cool thing about the CIA sponsored Genocide of pretty much every
single member of the once most powerful clan in the Mayan world is
that they built an International Airport less than 20km from the
island of Flores.

In the center of the island of Flores, the Conquers built a Catholic
church, and is traditional in Spanish America, it faces the central
plaza.

It is my dream to gather my bandmates, lawyers, managers, cronies,
confidants and lovers to travel to this island in Guatemaula in
December of 2011 for the purposes of recording an album of music
during the moments of the winter solstice. In addition to recording an
album of music, I intend to make the local contacts necessary to
return, during the winter solstice of 2012 and produce a large scale
international concert of experimental music.

You may well ask WHY? would I want to go to the trouble of traveling
all the way to such a remote location. The answer- I feel a powerful
calling. But all spiritual mumbo jumbo aside, an epic dream yields an
epic journey yields an epic story which is a powerful tool for getting
attention, which is what is needed to sell media.

I have been a having a hard time motivating myself to figure out how
to charter an airplane and book a place to stay during the week we
will be there. I plan to use a kickstarter campaign to finance the
endeavor, but have not been able to get quotes from charter flights
and hostels.... My Spanish is not good and the direct flights on
commercial airlines seem to have been suspended, sometime after the
cession of the genocide.

lyrics

DON'T PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE, AMERICA
I WORK FOR ALLAH
&
I PROMISE FINANCIAL RUIN
IT IS GOD'S WILL THAT YOU BE DESTROYED
ANOTHER MONKEY LEAVES THE GAME
NO VIRGINS IN PARADISE FOR YOU
ONLY FOR ME AND MY FOLLOWERS
i AM ALLAH'S EXALTED ONE
COME TO DESTROY AMERICA
THE WESTERN BANKING SYSTEM
RUN BY JEWS
IS INSLAVING THE ENTIRE WORLD
MUSLIM NETWORKS OF INFORMAL MONEY LENDING
ARE WHAT i WILL HARNESS FROM THE AFTERLIFE
USING SMARTPHONES, SATALITE UPLINKS AND
A SIMPLE DOUBLE BLIND PASSCODE HASH

A LIFE UNDER SHARIA LAW IS NOT WORSE
THAN BEING A PEON IN A CAPITALIST WORLD
EVERYBODY GETS TO WEAR SANDALS
ALL THE TIME
AND GO TO CHURCH ALL THE TIME
AND NOT MUCH MUCH ELSE
WE'RE TRYING TO STAY PURE
THE PARTY'S IN THE AFTERLIFE
THIS WORLD HERE
IS AS SERIOUS
AS SERIOUS
AS A TRUCK BOMB

so there it is at least the vision is articulated and can now be
critiqued, modified and acted on.
We're looking for any local radio
stations, art galleries, recording studios or nightclubs in Flores
that will help us with our project Those are good people to find, &
could act as facilitators. We would like to locate a local newspaper
to post a classified ad in?

Will Flores actually be able to bear the burden of an "international
noise festival" suddenly plopping down there?
This is the important question we must answer this December. I want
to avoid looking like zombie carpetbaggers. Our 2012 "End of the
World Party," will host a few select top experimental acts, our best
friends and embraces any open-minded locals that may be around.
What about the idea of playing at or on some Mayan ruins?
Answer: Tikal is nearby, and is massively wierd, some say it is an
ancient spaceport... Kinda like Pink Floyd at the Acropolis or the
Grateful Dead at the pyramids of Ghiza? I like that idea as much as
playing in front of the cathedral, except that the logistical issues
will be more difficult, and then there is the symbolic gesture of
playing in front of the church. My current production of a
Bubbleface tape release is on schedule to be used as key schwag in the
Kickstarter deal if this ever gets going....
